I bought my first Android phone, the T-Mobile G1, in February of 2009. In February of 2010 I upgraded to the T-Mobile myTouch 3G, though the only reason I upgraded was because the call button on my G1 died, and it was cheaper to upgrade to the myTouch than to purchase another G1. Then, this July, I upgraded to the T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide, the Slide standing for the full slide-out QWERTY keyboard (very similar to the G1′s) that the new myTouch featured.
So, I was on phone #3, but still hadn’t been able to do any screenshots, because that required rooting, something I wasn’t willing to risk doing. For the hell of it, I checked the Android Market, and came across the Screenshot app. According to the description rooting was required, but after reading a comment from a myTouch 3G Slide owner that said that he was able to take screenshots on his unrooted phone, I decided to install it and try it.
Needless to say, it works perfectly!

I also use a screenshot app on my phone.

I, too, get the message “Screenshot only works on Rooted Phones” message when it first starts up, but it still works! It doesn’t work with “Shake the phone to take a screenshot” checked, but does work with the timer. I’m using it on an unrooted Motorola Triumph from Virgin Mobile! Thanks, Tech Girl! I would have never tried it if I hadn’t read this page!
