What goodies did Santa bring you?

Santa didn’t bring me the Nikkor 10.5mm fisheye, which I believe officially tops my list of must-have gadgets, but he did bring my husband a snazzy digital photo frame — the Digital Décor 7″ LCD Slim Digital Photo Frame. I admit, “Santa” got quite a deal on it — just $30, thanks to Target’s Black Friday Sale — but still, it’s definitely worth the $60 it normally costs. I wonder if the aircraft technicians out there got the aircraft parts supplies they wanted?

Online shopping: TheLampStand.com

Being tech-oriented means doing a lot of my shopping online. Since I love a good smelling house, one thing I often check out online is options for fragrances. The Lamp Stand has a lot of great fragrance options, including Lampe Berger fragrance lamps and oils to match. I’ve tried out candles, plugins, sprays, and oils, and out of years of experiences, scented oils, particularly ones that can be heated up, are the ones that I prefer!

Check out the Blackberry Pearl!

I know, I know, I was just gushing about the Blackberry Torch. But then I made my way over to phones4u, and now I can’t stop staring at the gorgeous Blackberry Pearl:

Blackberry Pearl

The Blackberry Pearl at phones4u wouldn’t be for me, however. It would be for my father, who is moving on up in the world of cell phones. He went from a very bare bones Nokia to a semi bare bones Nokia. He has learned how to text, and is a whiz at phone calls and voicemail. But he needs something a little… nicer. His Nokia doesn’t even offer a color screen, I don’t think. The Blackberry Pearl, on the other hand, offers a color screen and so much more:

Its crisp display, smartphone technology and easy-to-navigate buttons and system make this phone a perfect Christmas gift for my dad. The fact that it has a built-in camera and a media player are just added bonuses. Hmm… I wonder if my dad would use the phone to take pictures, and if so, what he would take pictures of. Now that would be interesting!

Blackberry goodness

If I weren’t so in love with my Android phone, I would definitely have a Blackberry. For the longest time my brother-in-law used nothing but Blackberrys (Blackberries?). And I have to admit, all of the Blackberrys I have seen are pretty damn innovative when it comes to touch screen, performance, processor speed, and apps. Click here for a Blackberry Torch page which outlines all of the goodness that the Torch has to offer:

Tell me this is not one sexy little phone that Dialaphone is currently showcasing:

Who knows, I just may try a Blackberry one of these days. My husband wants to switch from T-Mobile to Sprint, and Sprint seems to have more in the way of non-Android phones — Blackberry, Palm Pre, etc., so we’ll see!

Give the gift of security and peace of mind

Do you know someone who is concerned with security at their home or business? Why not give them a security camera for Christmas? Security cameras are often wireless, which means that they can be mounted anywhere. Choice of electrical wiring or battery usage means no worrying about wiring — or batteries, if you have wiring in place.

In addition to a security camera, consider giving them the gift of security monitoring. It’s often less than ten bucks a month, and can give someone a huge peace of mind to know that their home or business is monitored remotely! So whether they have a jewelry store full of mens rings to protect, or a home and family to keep an eye on, a security camera plus a monitoring system can be just what they need.

Technology is everywhere

I’m amazed at how many electronics and even appliances these days are infused with technology. From a refrigerator ice maker to an alarm clock to ghd straighteners, it seems like everything under the sun can tap into the internet via a 3g (or 4g!) or wifi signal, or somehow make use of the latest technology. Products from ghd, for example, have the latest in temperature sensors, which is a good thing should you accidentally navigate your straightener too close to your scalp, ear, or neck (I’ve owned a hair straightener for not quite a week and have already burned myself twice — ouch!). Some of the more recent diabetic meters feature USB sticks, so that they can plug right into and sync with your laptop or desktop computer.

The downside of technology being everywhere is that it can be very difficult to unplug! Between my cellphone, my iPod Touch and the book reader I will most likely be getting for Christmas, I always have a way to check my email, see what’s happening on Twitter, update my Facebook status, and even do work. It’s good because I will never be without internet access, but bad because my employers know that they can always get a hold of me. ;)

What random products have you seen today’s technology show up in?

With today’s technology, who needs brick and mortar?

If I sat down and figured out approximately how much of my non-essential shopping is done online versus in an actual store, I’m sure I’d be surprised. But then again, maybe not. I take shameless advantage of sites like Amazon, eBay and Etsy, and with PayPal just a login away, paying for products online, whether it’s through PayPal directly or via my PayPal-issued debit Mastercard, couldn’t be easier. The advantages to shopping online at clothes shop such as Very or any other type of shop should be fairly obvious:

And now that Christmas is just five and a half weeks away, I’m sure more and more people are turning to the internet for shopping. I know that for me personally, I’ll be purchasing at least five Christmas gifts online. What can I say? It truly is more convenient. But more significantly, I can find things online that I can’t find in stores. And with sites like Very.co.uk, you’ll have an easy time of finding amazing and fabulous gift ideas for the holidays!

My five favorite gadgets

Five gadgets I can’t live without:

1. HP dv7: my laptop, my third child. She’s white, she’s powerful, she sucks down battery juice like there’s no tomorrow, but it’s all good because I am never without her power cord nor do I stray far from a power outlet!

2. T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide: my connection to the interwebs and the world when I’m not at my laptop. The myTouch 3G Slide is my third Android phone, and the best so far. Also in white, of course. :)

3. iPod Touch! Music. ♥

4. Garmin Nuvi 220w: my husband gave me this GPS unit for Christmas 2008. Best present EVER — this thing is just so damn useful!

5. HP Mini 311: what it lacks in power & performance (a lot, sadly) it makes up in portability and battery life. This sucker easily fits into most of my purses!

I won an iPod Touch!

As the subject line states… :) A few weeks ago I entered a Twitter contest hosted by @TheMaxSignal, and what would you know… I WON! Here’s the announcement, and again on their site. It arrived today… oh yes, I am definitely a happy girl!

Totally coincidentally, I also won a $50 iTunes gift card. Do you have any app recommendations? I already have a ton of music, so I don’t need any more… so get to recommending those apps, people!
